Our Colombian coffee does not come from one farm. It comes from fourteen smallholdings around La Plata, none larger than four hectares, that deliver their cherry to a shared wet mill.
That arrangement is common, and it is why "single origin" can mean a single hillside or a whole department. We prefer to say who is in the lot. This year that is fourteen families, eleven of whom were also in last year's.
What changed
The 2024 rains took out half the raised drying beds. The cooperative rebuilt them with the premium from our last two contracts — 38% over the commodity price, agreed a year ahead. The new beds have roofs, which means drying takes longer and is far more even.
You can taste that in the cup, although we have promised not to tell you what it tastes like.
